ANTA encourages Norfolk Terrier owners to participate in earthdog trials sanctioned by the American Working Terrier Association (AWTA) and the American Kennel Club (AKC).  Often, ANTA members can be found participating in these events and the picture below shows a number of us at one of our favorite events sponsored by the Finger Lakes Kennel Club in upstate New York each year. AKC earthdog trials are listed on their website under the Event & Awards tab (they can be found by clicking on Performance Events – Earthdog) and selecting a time range or a list of states.  The AWTA has a list of den trials on the homepage of their website. ANTA’s Fall Festival in September will have earthdog practice. This is a great sport that tests our dogs hunting skills and newcomers are always welcome.  Some tests require all entries to be made in advance, while other’s have ‘day of’ entries … this information will be in the premium list for each trial.  For inexperienced dogs and handlers,  Intro to Quarry (AKC) give beginning dogs and handlers an opportunity to try the sport with coaching from an experienced judge/competitor.
